I created an account on vimeo.com. To be honest, I like the service a lot. It has a cleaner look then YouTube, it has more functionality, beter use of tagging, better Userinterface and the transcoding of the videos is fast as well. If you have an account and know me, "friend" me on vimeo.com/bertboerland.

There are two things I dont like about the site, so dont excpect me to hang around on it in a year or so.

  1. The uploading is realy slow, even a small file takes a very long time to upload. This however can and will be solved and something I can life with even
  2. The Terms and Conditions. Like all 2.0 sites that are in fact 1.5 sites, it has some /real/ bad T&C. To quote

All materials contained in this Website are the copyrighted property of Connected Ventures, LLC. All trademarks, service marks, trade names and trade dress are proprietary to Connected Ventures, LLC and/or third party licensors.

With no further information on the uploaded video, I presume MY WORK is now owned as well by Vimeo... Just something people should be aware of.

Sentences like By accessing and using this Website, YOU AGREE TO THESE TERMS OF USE. If you do not agree with them, you should leave this Website immediately. always make my itchy. Is it legal to say that by using a site you agree on the Terms and Conditions? Is that legal?

Either way, another good thing, videos are marked as private by deafult. That is a very good move. And you can download the AVI as well, no more tricks to download the flash file, just a link towards the original format. Nice work Vimeo!
