Orkut

5 reasons why I forgot my Orkut ID and didn't care..

When I got invited to //Orkut by you know who; I thought it was interesting in a "6 degrees of separation" kind of way but that in itself was not enough to keep me interested. It needed an application. Molly wood (bolly/holly....?) lists her //5 reasons the social networks sites don't work..

Strangers kind of suck (or, put nicely, the social hierarchy is really not that attractive)

I don't completly agree with her but she has some good points. My view is that Social Networking sites need to add more value than the cost to maintain it and the value of an online view of your social network on the Orkuts, Friendsters etc is too low. //Linkedin offers mgre "business" value and they try to keep the cost of maintaining the network very low by offering outlook integration. //Getoutfoxed may be another way of adding value...but we need the //Web2.0!! to maintain the networks..an easy way of bringing the cost down is by avoiding duplication..FOAF perhaps?

You have 1024 friends. You can only have up to 1000 friends. Before you can add more friends, you need to remove friends.

People I would love to meet

"You are who you know", is an old saying. If that is true, one wants to be whom one wants to meet.

So that means I want to be like:

With 3 out of 4 of these people I could even speak Dutch.

Not to brag, but people who are already off this list: Prins Claus (shaking hands), ESR (getting an autograph), Tim o'Reilly (complementing his OSCON), cmdrtaco (taking pictures), Bruce Perens (listening to why he -at that time- joined HP, I dig his opinion), Larry Wall (just listening to the man) and .... dozens of other cool people like you.

So who are you, who do you want to meet (willy dobbe?)
