KPN bashing iPhone (je wordt niet groot door anderen te kleineren)

Ik begrijp KPN niet. Ze maken de mooiste reclame campagnes van Nederland, melken het precies ver genoeg uit. Neem bijvoorbeeld de goedemoggel campagne; een hit over heel Nederland!

En toen deze net niet meer kon, werd hij van de buis gehaald. Maar na een paar maanden -precies op tijd- gewoon versie twee:

Ook andere uitingen van KPN zijn altijd goed. Zo rijden er duizenden autos rond van KPN met campagne teksten, hebben ze mooie namen voor diensten ("flexibel") en weet men gewoon al jaren hoe men B2B en B2C marketing moet bedrijven: echte marketeers met verstand!

Wat ik dan niet begrijp is dat er schijnbaar sub afdelingkjes zijn die zelf autonoom wat mogen aankloten in de marge. En dan krijg je dus dit soort advertenties online:

(adwords op Google)

(reclame op Amazon)

en op duizenden andere plekken vond je en week of twee geleden anti reclames tegen KPN, want zo zal de gemiddelde cosument het zien. Negatieve reclames worden geassocieerd met de aanbieder, niet met de concurrent.

De iPhone is een fantastisch apparaat, dat kan je niet afzeiken. Als je dat wel doet, dan plas je tegen de wind in terwijl je probeert te mikken op de digital bohemian. Twee keer dom, toppers moet je niet afzeiken, ze bepalen de maat en opmaat. En tegen de wind in plassen, dat maakt dat je raar gaat ruiken (heb ik me laten vertellen :-) )

Dus KPN, niet huilebalken dat je de geweldige iPhone deal niet hebt gekregen, maar gewoon goede dingen doen.

Teletekst applicatie van e-office voor iPhone

Hulde voor e-office! Hun teletekst applicatie voor de iPhone is echt geweldig! Snel, mooie userinterface en natuurlijk, teletekst is 100 jaar oud maar met deze applicatie voelt het alsof je op een "mobiele website" zit, hetgeen wellicht meer zegt over de userinterface van de meeste mobiele websites.

Als je een jailbroken iPhone hebt, een must om te instaleren! Voeg http://teletekst.e-office.com/iphone/repo/ toe als repo aan je installer en je bent er. Een nadel, waarom zulke lange URL's als je weet dat je ze moet inkloppen op een iPhone e-office? iphone.e-office.com/repo/ was beter geweest. Maar okay, los van nederlansche gezeik, een geweldigge applicatie!

Drupalcon, from Amsterdam (via Brussels and Barcelona) to Boston

DrupalCon Boston is comming up! And from what I have read, it is by far the biggest DrupalCon so far and the best organized!

Looking back at 2005 (only 2.5 years ago!) I brought by own WiFi 802.11b access point, borrowed a beamer from my work and layed down some powercables. A -semi- anonymous client of Bryght paid for the venue, coffee, lunch and opening drinks. Things surely changed since then, 20 people have been busy for months to raise the money needed to hire the venue, have a logo contest (vote!) and do everything that is needed to make sure 600+ people can have the time of their life. And they have done a great job so far and I am sure it will the "even more best-er DrupalCon ever".

You can find some old snaps of Amsterdam 2005 on Flickr. I got only one question: what did Gaele saw on the desktop of Dries? Either way, we have come a long way.

If you want to become a sponsor of the DrupalCon Boston, look at the direct benefits you gain from becoming so. The indirect benefits are far bigger though, both for the community as for your own business. The community profits by making sure a lot of people can get together to talk about Drupal, plan roadmaps, exchange ideas, shake hands and even code! And when you use the code of "the community", you will gain as well. Your company also gets a better alignment with the community that really pays; prospects will find you! Looking back at 2005 Amsterdam, we have come a long way baby!

I recall a very good talk from Rasmus with an AJAX-ified XSS exploit searcher and a good talk as well from David. The slogan "Fail Fast, Fail Cheap, Be Lazy and 'the greatest inefficiency comes from solving problems you will never have'" is the best description of agility I have come across and has become my mantra. Looking forward to Boston I think we have grown in numbers but most of all in quality. Boston looks great!

But it was too damn cold and the wifi crapped out every time a train came into the station..

Of course posting from a hotspot is nothing special but this was different: I was using socks over SSH over an DNS tunnel to the TOR network. I had read the initial articles about using DNS as a covert channel to tunnel IP traffic from closed Wifi hotspots a couple years ago but last weekend I was staying in an hotel with expensive Wifi and an 2 hour minimum so I decided to check what the state of the art of DNS tunneling is.

And it turned out to be pretty easy using SSH and a little perl script and a willing DNS server from the TOR network; it worked like a "slow" charm from my home network and the train journey from Haarlem offered a great opportunity for a field test but the stops in the stations were too short to post anything so I ended sitting outside on the platform but gave up after my fingers got too numb to type...the stuff I do for willy...

fast update: went to the keynote of stallman. boy is he an ass! no reality whatshowever. he t inks goverments should make it illegal to sell local companies to parties like microsoft just to prevent blackmailing in relationship to software patents...

rest is rather useful , stuff like mozilla, *, clamav etc is cool. had a drink yesterday with some drupal ppl, dries, steven,boris and others. will post more tomorrow

btw: this is my first Blog from my pda, wifi is next to useless with all these roque ap's poluting the space.

Wep is not the most secure protocol, that is known. In fact, it was written after a pyjama party, that much is for sure as well. Now you can see in a cool flash movie with a cool sound how you can hack a wep key within 10 minutes. Cool oder? Maximize your browser and the volume. And you dont even have to be l33t!

After reading [mikew]'s posting regarding WEP, I thought who created the braindead WEP protocol anyway? I know when it was invented, the day after a pyjama party. Thats for sure. I know where to look, around the IEEE.org members. But I have been googling for some time and still havent found who invented it, a name.

We demand a name! So here starts the quest. Whoever finds out who created this protocol and posts it here, will get a 360 yahoo! account or gmail account or orkut invite from Willy (or just a wet kiss from [brecht|the most beautifull girl] in the world)

Netstumbler, from software to content

A long time ago I downloaded and installed netstumbler, a program to see the signal/noise ratio for wifi networks. Today I visited the site again to find out that the program is still there as is the mini version for PDA's but the site itself has some real "wireless" related content. Worth checking out on a regular basis.
