Willy will be down for 2 weeks or so

This site -willy dobbe- has been running on a ten year old pentium 166 for the last 4 years. The last month or so the uptime of this site was pethetic. Lots of kernel panics en oops-es. I have "new" (that is 5 year old) hardware in place and I should have migrated a long time ago, but I didnt.

So the next two weeks or so willy will be down and out. I am sorry. In the third week of September I will finish the new system and a new willy will rise from the ashes. So I hope you are reading this via a rss feed and you will return in a week or two/three.

Willy will return, thats for sure! Just have a little patience.

update: back online on old hardware...

Nothing OSS is remotely backward compatible

So it seems you have your work cut out for you ;D. What new features will will be looking forward to after all this work?

no

kees

oss perse doenst have a non backwards compatibility statement. there are lots of projects that have a very good backwards compatibility record. however, since the major cost of upgrading is doing the labour (instead of buying yet another license) most OSS projects go with lightspeed and dump the balast of the past. drupal is such a project, with some bugfixes backported and every now and then a module. but never afraid to break with the past to create the future (unlike some other companies)

willy currenlty runs 4.5 and i might upgrade to 4.6 or if 4.7y ships early to that one. most work will be however making a new linux hosts they way i want it and maybe customise a new theme. 4.7 has a very powerful theme engine where blocks can be placed anywhere, not just left and right. there are some very cool modules out for 4.6 and higher. what 4.6 plus adds can be found here. basically 4.7 adds AJAX in the core (lookup ajax on willy or google to see how powerfull webapplications can get!) and folksonomy or free tagging flickr sytyle.

some excellent ajax examples can be found on this site (note: our employer is partner!)

Ajax?

You know I support Feyenoord, don't you? Ajax is that the OSS variant of Atlas :DDDD????

missing out

you seem to be missing out the buzz of a month or 3 ago. Asynchrone
Javascript And XML. Google for yourself, or look on willy where I
posted a bit on this as well. BTW: AJAX has been around for a couple of
years and was "invented" by... MSFT. I didnt become succesful
of cource, with a new spiffy name (AJAX) and google and others making
new web applications, it IS the Web TWO dot O.

And yes, I know you would have preferred another name, just think of this Ajax as the successful one.

What kind of SLAs are that...

2weeks down but but I need my willy...eh..that is not what I meant...I mean I do need my willy but what about willyD.

Anyway have good a break and my post about preople will have to wait...I need to work on PlanX anyway..

BTW can you look into the RPCXML Api on your new willy? This one seems to be broken..

-Mike

non sla

willy will be back. planx needs willy as well (and Big Balls :-). The XMLRPC that shipped with willy had a vulnability a week or 3 ago. Not related to drupal but all php XMLRPC stuff was highly insecure. I disabled it on willy (and I would have lost willy a couple of times if I hadnt judging from my logs) and the new 4.7 (current: head, status: code freeze) has a new XMLRPC and a patched one is out for 4.5 and 4.6 (drupal was in fact the first CMS/CMF with the patch).

drupal.org btw was migrated to the states and is blazing fast.

hmmm looks the same....old willy or new willy??

-Mike

same old

it is just me being back, willy is kinda back on the old hardware. will install a fresh box tomorrow, upgarde the distro's rpm's, harden the box, move the data, upgrade drupal (with a new drupal just a week or so ahead :-( ), make a new theme, install the new modules, curse, reinstall things and post an update about my holiday in corfu, upload a 500 pictures, delete 1000 mail on my domain (all spam I hope), check the 32 new gmail mails and I wont look at my corporate mail.

fast seeing/posting your site btw...

Good luck with the upgrade

Hello, I have 2 questions 1)

Hello,
I have 2 questions
1) I always encounter a problem (Error) when I want to upgrading from SMF 1.1.7 to SMF 1.1.8
2) I can't find the Administration panel under the heading “Configuration”. Called “Ad Management” The Ad Management Mod. In here you will see 4 tabs, Edit ads, Add ads, Reports And Credits. I've even downloaded the thematic ebook http://www.ebook-search-queen.com/ebook/Inst/Installing+SMF+Connector.all.html , but still feel at a loss (((
Please can anyone be of help to me. Thanks
