Yet Another Drupal Site

Wethepeople.nrc.nl

Today the quality Dutch newpaper NRC launched We The People. A Dutch site regarding -nice hostname- the European constitution. The news? It is hosted by my employer and running Drupal! It is the first major Drupal implementation in the Netherlands for traditional media as far that I am aware of (after [:bright.nl] that is). And yes, I host and house it but have /nothing/ todo with the implementation which was done by... ummm..how do you say this in a nice way... amateurs!

I knew it was supposed to go live today so yesterday I mailed them a dozen tips on optimizing the configuration, some of them -without a nice "thank you" mail- were done. They deleted the changelog.txt and licence.txt in the root, changed the favicon.ico but still use the old way of clean URL's without aliases, there are diffs viewable for registerd users, they dont use the LDAP module to re-use the existing userbase and dozen of other things. For example running on old (pre 4.6.6) version for a site like that is not the smartest thing to do.

Still the cause is good, the hostname rules, and hey... they use Drupal! Now if only they would have consulted me either proffesionaly or private.

YADS: linuxcaffe

I have been to Toronto once and really liked the town. Wen / if I'll go there again, I'll make sure to visit linuxcaffe, "coffee, code, culture, community". Drupal power.

Asterisk VOIP howto movie

If you are into geekness or just want to know what will be mainstream in a year or two, checkout Asterisk, an Open Source VOIP PABX. And yes, it is a Drupal Site. And if you just want to smell the future without getting your hands dirty, download this torrent which has some good Asterisk background information.

Kevin Rose is joined by John Todd, a well known, leading Asterisk expert, to introduce you to the amazing VoIP (Voice over IP) world of Asterisk, the open source voip telephony toolkit. In this episode, Kevin and John take you through the installation and configuration of this powerful tool, and show how it can be used to give anyone complete control over their phone experiences.

Free Software Magazine

Issue 11 of Free Software Magazine is finally here and it's packed with great articles including: our own Tony Mobily interviewing Simon Peter the creator of klik. Robin Monks gets us started with Knoppix and Marco Marongiu takes Synaptic Package Manager out of the box. We also have Alan Berg (with the much required assistance of his son Nelson) fighting his way through the Battle for Wesnoth. And, of course, much more...

Democracy TV

YetAnotherDrupalSite: getdemocracy.com. Democracy is an Open Source "internet television" player. Well, thats the closest I can come up with:

Download and watch all the best internet TV shows and videos in one powerful application. New channels arrive daily in the built-in Channel Guide. Stop squinting at tedious web videos: sit back and watch big, high resolution videos.

I like this:

Democracy Player is a new kind of browser for watching videos-- grab webpages with video and video RSS feeds (including podcasts, video blogs, and BitTorrent feeds), and watch them full screen, one after the other. It's free and open source.
