YADM: Installing Drupal on Linux: an Epic Adventure

Over at eweek.com (a rather high volume site) there is a quote-ing of LinuxWatch.org, the article is about Drupal tittled Installing Drupal on Linux: an Epic Adventure

Opinion: Installing the Drupal content management system is too much of a battle, but works well once the fight is over.

I have installed Drupal a dozens times. I dont think it is hard to install, if PHP, MySQL and Apache are installed and configured, it's a 10 minutes job. However, work is underway to make an installer for Drupal, most likely in 4.8, which might see the light at the end of this year (or so).

For me, these [hard to install software] include sendmail, QuarkXPress, and now Drupal.

Well, this is NOT true! Sendmail is a bitch, Quark maybe hard, but Drupal should not be on this list! Only for people who find it hard to install Windows this can be the case.

Interview with OpenSourceCMS.com president

Ovwr at searchopensource there is an interview with the Chief of opensourcesourcecms.com, a place where you can compare and testdrive OSS CMS's. "Mining the untapped potential of open source content management".

And yes, it mentions drupal

The next layer down includes systems like Mambo and Drupal. Within the last couple of years these two systems, specifically, have really taken the lion's share of the "easy-to-use" OS CMS market. These systems are reasonably easy to master, and the plethora of third-party modules, components and themes can extend these systems to do just about anything.

Mono will be in Fedora Core 5

I Like Monkeys scoops that "mono [will be] in fc5"

Tonight Mono lands in rawhide, and will be included in FC5. We’re happy to enable another convenient method to use our core desktop platform. In this sense it joins all of the other enabling tools we have, including pygtk and java-gnome for Java. It’s already been used to build some pretty neat apps, including beagle, f-spot, and tomboy. We’ve been the longest holdout in shipping mono.

Good news and kudos to Novell.

For those who dont know fedora core, move on. For those who dont know mono, think .NET on linux.

Make your own tux

I have a lot of Tuxes in the house, I bought one copy myself some 6 years ago and every Linux conference I attend I pick some from Novell of HP to take away. I always say it is for my doughter, Brecht. Which is true. She likes Tux a lot and in fact it was one of the first words she said (Yes, I know I am sick, I also read The GPL every night for her... :-) )

Now I can make (read: my girlfriend could make) a tux by myself, Free Penguin Project, download free penguin sewing patterns, stuffed penguin and Tux patterns open source.

Welcome to the free-penguin project page. This project provides 'executables' that enable you to make your own soft-toy Linux® penguin. To put it straight: You can find sewing patterns and a community to sew your own soft toy or stuffed Linux® Tux penguin here.
