MS is more secure...

MS is worrying. Why do people swich to Linux? Why do people use OO.org?

The usual answer in MS's case: start a new //FUD campaing! //bash OpenOffice.org with bullshit like:

OpenOffice does not have a dedicated development or support team. Consequently, if bugs go unresolved, users have the option to resolve problems by scouring through numerous community sites and chat rooms.
Ummmm. Like when there is one vendor with a monopoly on patches and bug resolving, users will get more or better bugs fixed? I dont think so and //here is the proof.

MS^h^h European Commission is evil

Well, this certainly is MS-bashing on a different level, chronologically.

It also
orders the company to offer a version of its Windows operating
system without Windows Media Player, to encourage computer
makers to provide other audiovisual software
Yeah, like RealNetworks and Apple (monopolizing Quicktime) need "encouraging". 'Cuz they are so open-minded, not producing spyware, and not into world-domination.

Usually I don't really pick a side in these matters. (I only will do so to agitate any "believer", to fire-up the discussion, and to learn from it in the end.) But not this time.

CIO magazine on opensource

AT FIRST GLANCE, the company Employease seems unremarkable. But look a little closer. Employease, which provides employee benefits administration services to more than 1,000 organizations across America, has an IT architecture chiefly built around open-source software, which makes it a rare bird—not that it was planned that way when the company was founded in 1996.

"It's been quite a surprise to me. The open-source model just seems intuitively wrong," says John Alberg, the company's cofounder, CIO, CTO and vice president of engineering. But the facts speak for themselves.

The end of all "Linux to the desktop article" articles

Linux will come to the desktop, eventually. Please do not try to force it. Like the IBM commercial says, "Linux is open....The Future is open." Linux can be whatever you want it to be. There is nothing stopping you from helping out with one of the Desktop Linux distributions or your favorite Desktop Environment/Utility. If you lack coding or technical skills, money is always appreciated(and for some, beer). ;-)
